For Hungry Travelers ![]()
Being people who really enjoy food, Louise and I are often disappointed while traveling, and wish that we knew someone in the area who could recommend a good restaurant. I know, its really subjective, but here are a few suggestions. Some of these restaurants are fairly pricey, but then if your looking for a quick, cheap meal, any sub shop with a full parking lot is likely to be good. This list is for us 'plant nuts' who are on a busman's holiday, and would appreciate a real treat.
In Vergennes consider 'Eat Good Food' for lunch or early dinner. They're on Main Street and serve interesting sandwiches, soups and salads. 802-877-2772. Also in Vergennes, and our current favorite for lunch, is the Park Squeeze - 802-877-9996. They serve tasty soups and delicious wraps. For an evening meal try our local favorite for dinner is the 'Black Sheep Bistro' - 802-877-9991. The 'Bob Cat Cafe' in Bristol serves delicious food - 802-453-3311. Further north in South Burlington is 'Pauline's Cafe'. This has been a consistent favorite for 30 years or so. You can only do that serving great food. Look for them on the east side of Route 7 just as the 'great American sprawl' begins. In Burlington, the 'Pacific Rim' has great Asian food. They're across from City Hall Park on St. Paul Street. The 'Single Pebble', on Bank Street, west of Church Street, is a world class restaurant serving Chinese cuisine.... think 'mock eel' not chop suey and chow mein. The 'Penny Cluse Cafe' is on Cherry Street at the corner with South Winooski Avenue. They are open for breakfast and lunch only. Great food with a south western bent.
Bon Appétit!
