
Job Description:
All things needed to operate the nursery. This includes, but is not limited to:
Covering and uncovering the crop.
Fertilizing
Potting.
Propagation - digging, dividing, cutting, etc,
Maintenance - mowing, trimming, weeding, moving plants
Watering, irrigation system maintenance,
Pulling orders, preparing plants for market, loading truck,
Field and garden maintenance
Nursery maintenance and construction.
Job requirements:
Able to lift 10 - 12 lbs. in each hand ( 25 lbs. total ) and 50 lbs occasionally.
The work is physical and you'll be working with your hands a lot. You should be able to work bent over, kneeling or squatting for extended periods.
Work outdoors in heat and cold. Generally not in pouring rain.
You will get to operate the tractor, trucks, rototiller, lawnmower, and stringtrimmer, and many hand tools.
You have to be able to work quickly and efficiently. Nursery work is production work, we have to produce approximately 100,000 or so plants, and we will have handled twice that as the current season's crop is sold.
You have to be able to work alone and with other people. You have to be able to maintain your pace while working alone, and you have to keep up your pace if having a conversation with a co-worker.
You need to cooperate with your co-workers.
Finally, you have to value the work you do. You have to care enough to do the job well. You need to respect yourself and respect your co-workers, and you have to respect the plants you work with too. We have a reputation for very high quality and especially good service. People have to care about what they're doing to maintain these qualities.

Skills: You can learn the names and culture of the hardy herbaceous perennials in our collection of 1,000 +/- varieties.
At season's end you will have the fundamental knowledge of a gardener.
You will learn some propagation skills.
